TWO-YEAR WAIT ENDS: Vannucci smashes lap record for WorldSSP300 Pole in Aragon
Three manufacturers in the top three as the WorldSSP300 field set the grid for Race 1
MotorLand Aragon hosted the latest instalment of the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship action in sunny Aragon, Spain, for the Tissot Aragon Round. With five riders within 25 points of first place in the Riders’ Championship battle, it’s looking like the Riders’ Championship will go down to the wire. WorldSSP300’s Tissot Superpole session saw current P7 in the title race Matteo Vannucci (PATA AG Motorsport Italia WorldSSP300), take pole, followed by Aussie Carter Thompson (MTM Kawasaki) in P2, and current Championship leader Benat Fernandez (Team #109 Retro Traffic Kove), take P3 to form Saturday’s Race 1 front row.
VANNUCCI BACK WITH A VENGEANCE: Earns his first pole in exactly two years and two days at this very same circuit
Matteo Vannucci shattered the standing WorldSSP300 lap record with his 2’05.556s time, earning his first pole of 2025. Carter Thompson represented the land down under proudly as he placed P2 for his third front row start of 2025, and Championship leader Benat Fernandez had a strong introduction to his home round, earning front row in P3 thanks to his time of 2’06.074s.
HOME SURPRISE: Risueno maintains his strong Superpole form to notch back-to-back second row starts
David Salvador (Team ProDina XCI) was the fourth fastest on the day, qualifying the current Riders’ Championship runner-up to lead the second row. His grid position will put him in an aggressive position to attack Fernandez’s title lead in Race 1. Daniel Mogeda (Pons Motosport Italika Racing) earned his second-best Superpole result of 2025, his P5 bested only by his P4 qualification at Most. Juan Risueno (MS Racing) will round out the second row of Saturday’s Race 1, just over 0.05s slower than his countryman, Mogeda.
BUIS BUNDLED TO P7: The Dutchman will look to improve on his best result on KTM machinery at Aragon of P8
Two-time WorldSSP300 World Champion Jeffrey Buis (Freudenberg KTM-Paligo Racing) will lead the third row in Aragon, his 2’06.580s time earned him top KTM honours as he looks to climb back into the title fight. Loris Veneman (MTM Kawasaki) chased his fellow Dutchman Buis on the timesheets, coming up 0.03s slower than the #6, but rode well enough to lock in a third row position in P8. Marco Gaggi (Team BrCorse) finished in P9, ahead of his fellow Italian Kevin Sabatucci (Accolade Funds Smrz Racing BGR) in P10, to close out the top ten positions. Returning from his broken ankle, which saw him miss last round at Magny-Cours, Julio Garcia (Prodina Kawasaki Italka Racing) missed the top ten spots, but will start from P14 in Race 1.
